Guruh Soekarnoputra Dies at 73

Indonesia's influential musician and dance maestro has died after being taken into intensive care in Jakarta.

Guruh Soekarnoputra, described as an influential musician and dance maestro, died early Saturday at the age of 73. He had been receiving intensive care at MRCCC Siloam Hospital in Central Jakarta before he was pronounced dead, according to the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P).

His death closes out decades of work that shaped Indonesia's arts scene, from music to choreography, and the confirmation coming through PDI-P points to how closely his career was woven into the country's political and cultural life. Tributes are expected to follow as memorial details emerge.
